The Cypress Trees of NC

I’ve been eyeing this spot where the cypress trees grow out of the water just a bit south west of Oriental, NC for sometime. I had this vision for a perfect sunrise. I finally made it! The sun was a bit too far to the east yet to rise directly behind the cypress trees, but the color and the reflections were fabulous!

Sunrise, from the West

The sunrise this morning over Oriental, North Carolina was spectacular!  I was watching the sun rise over the Neuse River in Pamlico County watching between the supports of the Oriental Bridge.   The blues, pinks and a little bit of gold were just amazing.   Then I turned around to find this beautiful scene.   The sun clearly rises in the east, but on this morning it was a sunrise from the west.

Sunrise From the Arlington House, Arlington National Cemetery

The Arlington House (also known as the Lee House) sits on the hillside over looking the Potomac River and Washington, DC.    The Arlington House looks over 250,000 military grave sites.  These photos were taken standing directly in front of the Arlington House over looking the eternal flame of John F. Kennedy’s grave site and the rest of Washington, DC.   Can you imagine this sunrise/view every day?

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.  John F. Kennedy, 1961 (Inaugural address)
