It seemed rather appropriate to spend, at least part of Easter weekend doing something… well… religious. So I decided to visit the Franciscan Monastery in NE DC. I’m not sure if strolling through the lovely gardens, also known as an oasis of peace, really qualifies as something religious, but it was pretty close, I’m sure. A few friars doing the same (strolling) were noted, as well as a family walking the stations of the cross. I thought it was a lovely thing to do. Although I walked the stations of the cross path, I didn’t stop at each station for mindful prayer; yet you couldn’t help be a bit reflective.
As a side note, I’ve been to the Franciscan Monastery before — probably when I was 10. I’m not sure what took me so long to get back … but I won’t be making that mistaken again. In fact, I’m already looking forward to the pansies, azaleas, lilies of the valley, irises and early blooming roses of May.
From Maryland and sometimes North Carolina, where land and sea meet the sky.
